| Ministry
of Water and Irrigation (MWI) |
MWI is the official public
body in Jordan responsible for the overall water planning
and management, and the formulation of national water
strategies and policies. Since its establishment in 1992,
MWI has been engaged in the development of Water Information
System (WIS), offering the framework, databases and tools
necessary to manage water data and providing water specialists
with data and information for water sector monitoring,
management and planning. These tools are now institutionalised
within MWI newly established “National Water Master
Plan (NWMP) directorate”. With its extensive Water
Information System, MWI has become a lead in the region
that uses GIS-based digital tools for its regular master
planning activities. |

| MWI will
serve as a local coordinator with its sister organization;
the Jordan Valley Authority (JVA). JVA responsibilities
include the development, protection and conservation of
water resources in the Jordan Valley, in addition to planning,
design, construction, operation and maintenance of irrigation
projects. Given its experience in WIS and technical tools
development, MWI will assist in the conceptual development
of the operational tools envisaged within the project.
It will also contribute towards their adaptation to suit
its overall requirements for national water master planning
and JVA requirements for improved irrigation management
and water use efficiency.
