The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Jordan
is a leading higher education institute in Jordan and
the Middle East., promoting agricultural research and
management of natural resources including land and water.
The department of natural resources and environment within
the faculty carries out programs on irrigation management,
conservation of water resources in arid region and conjunctive
use of surface and groundwater.
The faculty carries out several research projects funded
jointly by University of Jordan and European Union, and
has recently been granted an EUproject onthe “ Sustainable
Management of Scarce Resources in Coastal Zone. Other
main projects are carried out on irrigation systems and
management and the introduction of irrigation saving technologies.
A diagnostic project on the efficiency of the Jordan valley
irrigation systems was carried out by Dr. Shatanawi, the
dean, for five years. |

| The faculty also collaborates with several agencies such
as ministry of Agriculture, the National Centre for Research
and Technology Transfer (NCARTT), (see partner 4). And
has strong relationships with international bodies such
as USAID, CIDA, EU, and FAO.
The University of Jordan has also recently established
a GIS unit at the Faculty of Agriculture, capable of resources
and land suitability analysis, environmental monitoring,
remote sensing applications, cartography and field survey.
It also provides training and research platform for students
and scholars in the area of natural resources.
